A Celebration Of Spring

This is the second in a series of four paintings I've done of the botanical gardens in Santa Barbara, a ravishing place absolutely bursting with nature's beauty. Unlike the first one, which was painted from the foot of the meadow looking up towards the majestic mountain, this one was done midway up the path looking across the meadow and gives a much softer view of the mountain's silhouette. But what really drew me to this scene was the absolute riot of wildflowers carpeting the meadow and the very curious angles created by the groups of different flowers which all seemed to lead the eye inexorably up to the glorious sunkissed mountain above. What a joy it was to paint!
