Autumn In The Cottage Garden

The Cottage Garden, a sister painting to this one, was recently featured in Saatchi's New This Week collection and was so well received that I thought I would add this one to my gallery as well. It was painted in the autumn when the colours were at their deepest and contrasts were everywhere. The sky was a deep blue above the fiery red foliage of the trees and the jutting purple blooms provided a perfect foil to the orange path leading towards the pagoda. I particularly liked the little rose-encrusted statue on the bottom left which was such a magnet for the birds and butterflies in the garden that day. What a joy to paint!
