California Sunlight 2

California Sunlight is the nickname of the dazzling orange and yellow poppies which litter this stunning scene. I enjoyed painting the first one so much that I couldn't wait to paint it again, so G and I headed back the other day but when we got there all the poppies were gone! Luckily I had taken lots of photographs for the first Sunlight so I simply cobbled together those images for this painting. While the perspective is different the elements which so transfixed me the first time are the same: the sundrenched mountain peaking out from behind a curtain of colourful trees; the barely visible pergola beside the stately cypress; the jewel-like strings of purple flowers bursting forth from a carpet of green; and, of course, those glorious poppies which gave this painting its name. It truly was breathtaking and what a joy it was to paint!
