Champagne Roses

G surprised me with these flowers the other day and their colours were so exquisite I knew I just had to paint them. I loved the way their singular heads gazed out at me from the canvas like characters in a cartoon, and the quirky way their petals formed tight little rings around each centre, widening out towards the edge like a smile beginning to trace a path across a face. And the best thing of all was drinking the champagne G brought me while I painted this picture! What joy!
