Fields Of Gold

Many years ago G and I went on an amazing road trip around America in a red rag-top Mustang called Lucy. We covered more than 10,000 miles and visited more than half the states in the nation and it was truly one of the journeys of our lifetime. On the road to Seattle one day Sting's Fields of Gold was playing on the radio and as we headed west across the Great Plains the vast epic landscape was lit up by the setting sun. It's a moment I've never forgotten and when it came time to name this painting G spontaneously said "Fields of Gold", and I knew exactly what he meant; the fields of red and gold grasses dancing beneath the purple foothills, the majestic mountains rising up to meet the shimmering sky, the entire breathtaking scene set ablaze by the burning sun. What a joy it was to paint!
