Flowers In The Foothills 3

G and I were driving around the foothills of Carpinteria on a beautiful sunny day when we came across this incredible field of flowers. It looked so stunning in the sunshine, so mesmerizing beneath the purple mountains, that we immediately stopped the car, parked on the verge, and got out to explore it. I began taking photographs of the flowers from every angle and every perspective, rows and rows and rows of the most amazing colours and blooms, and I remember saying to G that there could be a dozen paintings for me to do in this field! Later on we returned with a canvas and I sketched out what would become the first Flowers in the Foothills painting. Luckily we had taken so many photographs because when we went back the next day all the flowers had been picked and the field was bare! Those photographs were what I used to compose this and the other three paintings in what has since grown, together with the original, to become my little series of five. What a joy it has been to paint!
