Foothill Vines

G and I were driving around the foothills of Carpinteria when we came across this lovely scene. We had driven by many times before and never noticed this view as it was hidden behind a tall chain-link fence, but on this particular day we were stopped by a crew working on the road and were forced to wait for a while. As I glanced around I happened to notice some old vines stretching down towards the roof of a little house and, curiosity piqued, I hopped out of the car and crossed the road to take a closer look. The view which greeted me through the fence was an absolute riot of colours and contrasts; the lines of gnarled vines dancing down through a field of yellow and purple wildflowers, the charming cluster of trees of all shapes and sizes sat like a little village in the centre, and the magnificent sundrenched mountains rising up like a cathedral behind it all. It truly was breathtaking and what a joy to paint!
