Foothill Vines 3

This is yet another painting in my Foothill Vines series and, unlike the first two which had been sketched when the coastal fog of California was shrouding the scene, this one was sketched in brilliant sunshine and for the first time the true jaw-dropping scale of the mountains was revealed. They seemed to tower far above the valley, much higher than in my previous two paintings, dwarfing the trees and vines beneath to the extent that the tall central fir of the first paintings, which had reached into the sky, now barely made it halfway up the mountainside! Who knew! It was a wonderful revelation for me and what a joy it was to paint!
