Foothill Vines 6

This is yet another in my Foothill Vines series and despite the fact that I've already painted five of them I'm still utterly head-over-heels in love with this wondrous little scene! The vines themselves, now huge, have grown with each successive painting and the colours of the landscape have changed as summer has slowly given way to fall. But the composition that so totally entranced me from the beginning remains the same; the rows of gnarled old vines leading down to the roof of a little house, totally obscured now by leaves: the cluster of mismatched trees sat like a little village in the centre; the magnificent mountains rising up like an amphitheatre in the background, the entire sundrenched scene set ablaze beneath a clear California sky. What an absolute joy it was to paint!
