In The Garden

Our neighbour Lauren brought around some homegrown tomatoes the other day and left them on the table in the garden for us. When we got home I was so struck by the stunning composition they made, together with the lemons, candles and champagne bottle which G had just popped for me that I decided I wanted to paint it. I only had a 24x36 inch canvas which of course would have been way too big for such a small scene so I decided to widen the still-life out to include the garden as a whole, and I'm so glad I did because I got to paint all those wonderful flowers!
