In The Garden: The Fountain

When we heard that one of our local nurseries in the foothills of Santa Barbara was going out of business and all the plants were on sale for a dollar G and I hot-footed it over there to see what we could find for our own garden. When we got there we discovered a veritable wonderland stretched out as far as the eye could see: bougainvilleas, hibiscus, canna lilies, geraniums, daisies, even trees (trees!) for just a dollar! So we giddily set about scooping up plants and cramming them into our car until it was completely overflowing with botanical treasures. On the way home people stopped to stare as our flower-filled car sailed gaily by, brilliant blooms bursting forth from every open window. The plants we got that unforgettable day are the ones now featured in this painting and what a joy it has been to paint them!
