In The Garden: The Christmas Lights

G and I had just finished hanging Christmas lights in the garden and to celebrate our handiwork we popped a bottle of champagne. It was a typically gorgeous California dusk and as darkness fell the little ornamental bulbs began to glow and sparkle. Instinctively I reached for a canvas and as light danced around us and color streaked the surface of the glasses on the table I sketched what would become this painting. It truly was mesmerizing and what a joy it was to paint!
