Montecito Lemon Groves

G often has nicknames for my paintings before I've given them an official title and this one he called Stray Lemons, in honour of the little lemons littering the path below the trees. But this painting is all about the stunning groves as a whole, and the majestic mountains towering above them, a scene which we came across one day on the road to Montecito. It was so arresting that we immediately stopped the car and I hopped out with my canvas and began sketching, and as I stood there by the side of the road, the streaks of orange in the brilliant blue sky echoing the sundrenched mountains, I felt dwarfed by the epic landscape. It truly was glorious and what a joy it was to paint!
