Sunrise Rincon Point

Every morning before breakfast G and I go for a run with our Golden Retrievers Marley and Sunshine and it's one of the great joys of my life. On this particular morning we were running on the bluffs high above the beach when we came upon a sunrise so spectacular that we just had to stop for a moment to admire it. The sky was ablaze with colour and the sun's reflection traced a brilliant path across the ocean towards us, the land aglow in burnished light, and I had the uncanny feeling that it had been placed there for me to paint. I don't often sketch from photographs as I much prefer to sketch at the scene, but the photographs we took that morning became the foundation for this painting and I have loved every minute of painting it!
