The Bamboo Sky

This painting was inspired in large part by the red and white tree on the bottom right corner. It really was a breathtaking riot of red and white blossoms and contrasted so beautifully with the carpet of greens surrounding it. I began by painting the bamboo behind the pagoda and I so enjoyed the feeling of the short, flowing little brushstrokes that I found myself carrying that style on into the blue of the sky. Compared to my normal skies It took me what seemed like an age to paint! But in a strange way I feel like this is the sky the painting wanted and it also gave rise to the title The Bamboo Sky. What a joy to paint!
